Don't Rule Out a Billings Home Based on the Pictures
Sometimes You Just Have to Get in the House
I've heard buyers say some version of this more times than I can count:
“I like this WAY more than I thought I would.”
And I love hearing it.
Because sometimes it's about a house they almost didn't want to see.
They looked through the pictures online.
It seemed...fine.
Maybe the rooms looked smaller than they expected.
Maybe the layout was difficult to understand.
Maybe another house photographed better.
Then we actually walked through the door.
And everything changed.
Pictures Are Great at Getting a House Onto Your List
Listing photos are incredibly important.
They're often your first introduction to a home, and good real estate photography can help you understand the condition, finishes, rooms, and features of a property.
But pictures have limitations.
They can't completely communicate:
How the rooms connect
How large a space feels
The natural light
How the home flows
The feel of the neighborhood
The yard and outdoor space
How you'll feel standing inside it
That's particularly important when looking at homes in Billings.
Billings Has a Lot of Different Kinds of Homes
Drive around Billings and you'll quickly see that our housing isn't all the same.
You can look at newer homes and developments on the West End, established neighborhoods throughout 59102, properties in the Heights, older homes closer to downtown, or homes with more space as you move toward the edges of town.
Some homes have very straightforward modern layouts.
Others have been remodeled, added onto, or changed considerably over the years.
And sometimes photos simply don't communicate the property very well.
I've walked into homes where the layout suddenly made sense the moment we were standing inside.
That's why I don't want buyers eliminating every “maybe” house too quickly.
You Don't Need to See Every House Either
There's another side to this.
I'm not saying you should spend every Saturday touring 17 houses you already know you don't like.
Pictures are supposed to help us narrow things down.
If the house clearly doesn't meet your needs, let's move on.
But if a property checks the important boxes and your only hesitation is:
“I don't know...I'm just not sure about it from the pictures.”
It might be worth 20 minutes.
Worst case?
We walk through it, you don't like it, and now we know.
That's actually useful.
Every house you see helps you better understand what you do and don't want.
Best case?
You walk through the door, look around and say:
“I like this WAY more than I thought I would.”
And maybe you just found the house you almost scrolled past.
That's why sometimes...
You just have to get in the house.
